Raritan, New Jersey, is a perfect town for graduate students looking to live in a quieter and more peaceful area than a traditional loud college town environment. With Rutgers University only being a 15-20 minute commute, it is an ideal location to consider if you are looking for student housing. And if you don't have a car, the town's train station can also take you straight to the campus. As for places to live, many new apartment complexes have been built, some as recently as 2019, and nearly all offer special promotions and discounts for signing leases.
In addition, Raritan is rated as one of the safest neighborhoods in New Jersey. The town is also filled with great restaurants and shopping centers. The community is really friendly, and for those that like to get outdoors, there is even a beautiful large park in the town as well. I am fortunate to have found this neighborhood.

Raritan is a nice, quiet area to grow up in. My area had a fair number of elderly people, but also a decent mix of children in my age group. There is a quaint library, a fair number of stores to visit on Main Street, and Duke Island park to walk around. If you need something else to do, the Bridgewater Commons Mall and Main Street Sommerville usually have a number of activities. It is very much so a suburb, but one with options if you wish to pick up the pace a little.
Having grown up in Raritan, It's a nice, quiet little town. It is close to supermarkets, any kind of entertainment you can think of (mall, restaurants, shopping, etc.)
