    Short Hills

    • Suburb in New Jersey
    • 25 reviews
Current Resident:I like feeling safe here. You can walk out in the middle of the night without any fear of being attacked or watched. I sometimes don't like the people that these million dollar homes attract. There are many snobs, especially at school. However, if you want a great high school education and a family-friendly place, this is a great place.

    New Canaan

    • Suburb in Connecticut
    • 20 reviews
Current Resident:New Canaan is a picturesque small town with so many great community events, excellent public schools, convenient proximity to New York City, and awesome (if expensive) shopping. It definitely represents a suburban ideal. With that being said, it has almost no diversity and there is a lot of pressure to "fit in". To some, that aspect is motivating, but to others it can be quite stifling.

    Weston

    • Suburb in Connecticut
    • 7 reviews
Current Resident:I like the fact that it's pretty small and you get to know a lot of the people well. There isn't a whole lot to do in Weston itself, but it's about 10 minutes from Westport, which has a lot of stores, 20 minutes to the beach, and an hour train ride to New York. It's also very safe: I've never heard of anyone having anything stolen or anything particularly crime-related occur. The public schools are very good and a lot of money goes into them. It's a big reason why people choose to live in Weston. If you do not have kids in the school system, it's harder to meet people, and may not be the best place for you to live. For the most part, people are friendly and it's nice to see your neighbors or people you know around town. I had a good experience in Weston, especially with the school system. It's very competitive and is probably more difficult than most schools in the US, but if you're looking for a quality education, Weston would be a very good choice.

Parent:My parents and my husband's parents were also born in the town of Greenwich so we have deep roots here. We have family throughout the town and I love raising my kids near their cousins and grandparents. We enjoy what the town has to offer in the way of sports and leisure activities. The downside is that it is expensive to live here and many people have lots of money.

    Ridgewood

    • Suburb in New Jersey
    • 18 reviews
Works Here:Ridgewood is a great town for young adults to raise their children. Ridgewood is a very tight knit community where everyone helps out and knows one another. The center of town has a good amount of shops and top rated restaurants in the county which attracts a very positive ribe throughout the town. Ridgewood residents are great supporters of the local businesses. Also, young children used the center of town as a safe haven to meet up with friends. They utilize the shops, restaurants, and movie theater; everything is within walking distance! Ridgewood has a fantastic school system that challenges students and allows for high college acceptance rates. The faulty is outstanding and does not leave anyone behind. Ridgewood's school system also offers a wide variety of afterschool activities for the children, including camps at the town pool! Overall Ridgewood is an outstanding town and a wonderful community for families to grow.

    Westport

    • Suburb in Connecticut
    • 20 reviews
Current Resident:A beautiful town that is safe, family friendly, and full of many resources and opportunities for success as well as a fun. I have lived in this town almost my entire life, and I can say with absolute confidence that I have not felt safer anywhere else. You have nothing to fear when walking the streets, day or night, and there is always something to do. The shops downtown, while mostly pricey, are wonderful, Compo Beach is gorgeous year round, and the public schools are some of the best and safest. Furthermore, this town is excellent for raising a family. If you have the resources and can afford a home here (the only drawback to living in this town), I strongly recommend starting a family here. Its' strong, family oriented community ensures that all children have a chance in growing up in a safe town.

    Darien

    • Suburb in Connecticut
    • 23 reviews
Current Resident:My husband and I purposely moved to Darien because of the excellent schools, including the special education (we have a special needs child). It's extremely safe, very family oriented, easily accessible to NYC by 95, train (direct), and the merrit. Although, driving commute can be treacherous at times. I work <32 miles in NYC (not train amenable) and it can take up to 2hrs one way sometimes.

Niche User:If you love being surrounded by extremely intellectual people, this is the place to be. The education system is one of the top in the state and people are all friendly. Taxes are expensive, but close proximity to New York City and other opportunities make it worth it. There is a large Jewish population.

    Bernards Township

    • Suburb in New Jersey
    • 32 reviews
Niche User:This area has an amazing education and great schools to enroll children in for all ages. The atmosphere of Basking Ridge is friendly and welcoming. You can walk around feeling completely safe. Basking Ridge is considered a wealthy town and does have its low moments of "big egos". However, this is the town I grew up in and I will always pick my home town over other towns. I have networked here for my major in college as well as with friends and other families, it is where I have come to know and will always love!
