Quantico is a small town surrounded by a military base and lays along the shore of the Potomac River. It is five streets long and has less than 1,000 residents. I have grown up there since 2004 and let me tell you, the stereotypes of small towns are all true. The local government drama, the scandals, and everyone knowing your business is just the half of it. I believe that is inescapable. However, the thing I would like to see changed is the integration of smaller businesses into all the empty buildings on the main street. There is a coffee shop, a Dominos and barbers but that is about it. I believe that a few nice restaurants would make the streets busier and livelier.
I am a military child, so I live and go to school in the Quantico base. Quantico offers a lot of opportunities to children such as jobs, volunteer experience, and even scholarships. The school on base offers an excellent AVID and MCJROTC program and academics. Families can come and enjoy Quantico!
With the constant change in the surrounding building I have been a witness to the ripping apart of this small town and as it's pieces are slowly being put back together, oh the beauty. With it being right next to the water I get to see the sunset every night as I hear the trains pass by. The calm state of things here is what makes it so enjoyable. The only problem is that this isn't the kind of place where so one is always made welcome, q-town can be dangerous at night, and the diversity of prospect their has been run in to the ground. Making some of the building look straight out of an episode of the Twilight zone.
