Working in Putnam
Lovely downtown area, amazing nightlife; cute little shops opening all the time. Check out the playhouse as well its definitely a great treasure to discover in this part of CT. There are a ton of fantastic restaurants in town such as The Black Dog, or The Stomping Ground. Great places to go if you're in your 20s, housing is affordable although as with any city, there will always be an area that doesn't necessarily look "safe" thankfully the police department here is very active in the community and show up often during city functions such as first fridays, the water fires, or the holiday light parade to name a few.
This is a very quiet and clean area. The only downfall is that there isn't always a lot to do, especially for children outside of going to the park. I will add that during certain seasons there tends to be a lot more local and or free events to attend for your enjoyment. This area is best for those who are settled and or have children or the elderly. There are a lot of natural walking and or hiking trails for outdoor lovers. There are animal parks and events locally as well. Plenty of farms and or orchards close by as well.
As a transplant here from MA, there is nothing to do here at night besides drinking and Walmart. If you own a home expect a break in. Things don't get reported here. People are usually friendly. Schools are underfunded. Overall if I did not work in the area. I would not live here. During the spring to fall there are events that are fun for families to get out and enjoy. My next door neighbor's car was broken into twice recently.
