We're 20 minutes from the nearest town, so it makes it very hard to just run up to town if we need something. The schools seem to be behind in their curriculums, but have gotten better over the years that we've lived here. It's an extremely conservative and religious area, and in my opinion is far behind the times. I like the seclusion, but I don't like how inconvenient even the simplest things are. I most likely wouldn't choose to live in this particular area again, but maybe in a surrounding area.
Winter weather affects our area the most. We also have some difficulty with downed trees and power outages because it is a rural area with many trees. All of these are given appropriate responses.
There are no gyms in the immediate area and this would be a huge improvement as it is a regular necessity not something to access occasionally. There is great health care in nearby cities.
There are some small local businesses that provide basic necessities. I usually drive to a nearby city to find other things I need.
I have a specialized professional job and am employed as I would like to be. This is a bedroom community and most people drive out of town to work.
Crime is not a big problem in the area. In the summer there have been periods of petty theft on the lake.
There are 2 lane state highways and 2 lane local roads in the area. Overall they are in decent shape.
Most homes have a significant feature to attract residents such as a lake, or acreage or just a nice large lot.
There is an abundance of lakes and other outdoor recreation opportunities in the area. there are many hunters and fisherman. There are parks with additional opportunities as well.
The services in out immediate area are sufficient for the area that we live in.
The outdoor activities such as fishing and boating is what attracts visitors to this area.
People in our neighborhood are very friendly. Some neighbors have part time lake homes and we don't know them as well. It is easy to recognize many people in our community after being involved here for more than 20 years.
