I can literally walk out my front door and experience my childhood memories all over again. Although some lifelong neighbors have passed away the homes were left to their family members that I have also grown up with. I can go for a walk/jog and feel safe. There is an old school that was damaged by Katrina in my neighborhood which also has a parish ball park/gym. I can walk back there and watch the children I know play sports. I have a dollar store behind my house which was built a few years ago. If I don't have a vehicle I have access to everything I need. I would really have a hard time fitting in anywhere else. The community I live in helps and supports each other. It is a small town/community. If we don't get another hurricane I see more homes being built, more restaurants opening up, more businesses coming in. It has the potential to have everything it's just those fear another hurricane blowing through and not being able to come home. The government has said if we have another bad storm they will turn my parish into hunting/fishing land. I can't stand the thought of not being able to come home.
Our parish Sheriff is awesome. He does what it takes to keep a safe community. He has no fear in driving all over. He keeps us a peaceful community. They do have crime here just like everywhere but it is always handled efficiently and that's matters most.
