Poughkeepsie is a beautiful place with a lot of potential. It borders the Hudson river and has beautiful views of the Shawangunk in Catskill Mountains. It contains the mid Hudson Bridge and the walkway over the Hudson, a converted train track that is now a walking and bike path 2 miles long over the river. It has great businesses and is a Mecca of public transport, businesses, public offices and legal buildings. Poughkeepsie also contains Dutchess community college which is a well recommended, state school for two year degrees.

The only reason that it does not have a perfect rating is due to the illegal activity that occurs within the city of Poughkeepsie. There are drug related robberies and death, as well as various other crimes. As a female, I do feel safe as it is well traveled by the police however someone from out of town may be a little uncomfortable on market Street in the evening. They were other streets such as Winnikee that are bad as well. Overall great place to live.

The Town of Poughkeepsie is a great area! Very safe and a good place to raise a family. I believe the addition to the hospital will bring in new people and bring up real estate. It is also an easy commute to the city, just hop on the train! I went to Spackenkill schools and loved it. Would definitely send my own children there one day.
TOWN not City. Different zipcode, different Town Hall, different police department, different school district, higher taxes, low crime, etc. etc. No Mayor here!
