I have lived in Portage for 14 years and I moved here when I was three. Living in Portage is very average of a town with a lot of stores and restaurants and enough things to do just around the city. Another thing that is very nice about Portage is that it is surrounded by a lot of other towns that has activities for all ages. The only thing that could be improved about Portage is the pace that people improve our city with things such as roads, lights, and even other stores and franchises.

It's just an average town in Indiana. If it wasn't for its closeness to Chicago and nearby Lake Michigan, it wouldn't be on anyone's radar. Nothing exciting, many Harley riders driving main roads up and down whenever it's nice with their crappy machines, that should probably tell you everything. Only good if you have kids and want them to go to passable schools for free.
Portage has a wonderful community atmosphere. They have a variety of activities for adults and children, wonderful parks, and host events for families to be involved and active.
