I like this town because it's small and it's a great place to start a family. It's growing at a rapid rate but there's nothing to do in terms of entertainment.
I like Port St. John because it mostly has everything you would need, and if it doesn't then it is very close to places like Titusville, Viera, or Orlando. Port St John is relatively quiet, and most people know most people, so I definitely like that aspect. The one thing I'd like to see change is for us to actually have sign that welcomes others driving into/through the community.
Port St. John is still a small community, but I think we're growing. Quick & easy commutes to Titusville, Merritt Island, Cocoa, Melbourne, Viera, & Orlando but not a lot to do in actual PSJ. My husband & I have built a quiet little life here with our dog and each enjoy ~20-minute commutes to work. We don't have children yet, so I just put average for the public schools, though that is an assumption. We feel safe here and it seems to be a nice community. We have lived here about 3.5 years now and plan to stay for the foreseeable future. Hopefully we will have more restaurants and other diversions added soon, that's the only real complaint we have, is regarding the lack of things to do close to home.
The area is mainly residential with some commercial and space center or other industrial sites. The school district, Brevard Public Schools, is the very big, however, with quantity, quality has gone down. PSJ is a very safe community, however drugs are often Prevalent. the local public transportation, the county SCAT bus is a joke. and more often than not off schedule. however, job opportunities are plentiful, as there are two major cities equidistant from the Area
I have lived in Port St. John for 8 years and it is a wonderful town and community. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Every time you walk into a building you are greeted with friendly faces and people ready to help you.
With the revamp of the space program, SpaceX has brought back residents and put small businesses back on the maps; once again a thriving family friendly community. The public school system has great teachers who care about their students. Indian River Lagoon offers fishing, dolphin watching, kayaking, and beautiful views. We enjoy short drives to attractions such as Disney and the Brevard Zoo. Overall, Port St John is the ideal town to live, work, and play.
Our community is strong, we show support to anybody in need, we support our local school Space Coast jr./sr. high school. In our area it feels safe.
Raised two kids here in Port St John and loved living here they are grown now and I still do. Port St John in my opinion has great schools and many activities for students, children and their families to get involved in, it also has that good home town feeling as well. As far as raising families is a concern it rates to me one of the best in Brevard, but if you are a party animal and enjoy living around a night life atmosphere then Port St John would not be a good fit for you.
Port St. John lacks community involvement and togetherness. The town is not as nice looking as the neighboring towns and there is a big "redneck" population.
I have lived here for close to 30 years. On the same street for 27 years. Everyone on our street looks out for each other, it is quiet. It has a small town atmosphere but we are close to the beach, Orlando and major shopping areas. The schools are good and there are several colleges near by. The prices of homes are going up again. But since it is an unincorporated area, neighborhoods can vary. One street may look great and two streets over the yards are unkept with junk cars in the yard. We used to have a home owner's association but that disbanded years ago, I wish we still had one. Since there were so many foreclosures in the past, there are more rentals now. Rents are typically $1,000 to $1,200 a month. We have 4 rentals on our street and 12 homes. Lots are typically 1/4 acre. I would recommend it as a good place to raise a family or retire.
Port St. John is a residential community that is not incorporated, therefore the taxes are not as high as neighboring cities. Real estate in this community is a mix of old construction built in the 1960's and new construction. Prices of homes and property are average. The schools are all A schools, which can drive up the cost of property at times. The median income of this community is around 40-50K.
For a living city this is best option, honestly PSJ is a black hole in the middle of no where. There is no night life crime is very minimal but the drugs in the area can be bad. Overall the BCSO keep the town safe and sound.
There is crime everywhere in the US, but I currently feel safe here.
The crime in this area is extremely low, if there is even any that people notice. There are the local police station and the sheriff office close and are always ready to respond to anything. The people feel safe and have no reason to feel unsafe.
The neighborhood has a friendly and peaceful atmosphere. Everyone in the neighborhood gets along and there are no arguments. If I had to, I would live here again and do it all over again. I believe this is a great place to live and would recommend for whomever is looking for a place to live.
Crimes very rarely occur. Police are responsive to your call, yet they could patrol the areas a bit more. But overall, it's very safe in this area.
Small little area that's pretty quiet. It has a great community presence and events that bring people together. Extremely low in crime. New small businesses are starting to open up, which is a great site to see in the community. Just wish there were more entertainment areas around and higher upper level jobs available.
