The Poplar Grove neighborhood is very safe. There is a small park right in the middle of the neighborhood I live in and I see young families and kids hanging out over there all the time. The township will occasionally put on a family-friendly outdoor movie night. There are also two fireworks shows every late June / early July, one at the village hall and the other in Candlewick Lake! A lot of people will commute here to Rockford or the Chicago suburbs, although it is a pretty long commute (an hour give or take). There aren't a lot of high-paying jobs really close by, but to me it's one con in amongst a lot of pro's.
I lived here for the majority of my life. It was a decent place to grow up and the school system was decent. There wasn't a lot to do when it came to arts or anything within the school system, and the opportunities were fairly limited, however running start was offered, and I was able to get my associates while in high school which was an amazing head start and experience.
I've only lived here for a year and a half but, love it! My family and I bought our 1st home here and truly are so happy. The farms, greatly priced homes, parks, and the schools are amazing! I love it here also because of the more country feel. At night it's so quiet and you can see the stars so clear. I would love to see rt 76 be 4 lanes one day. Would help with slow drivers, tractors or semi trucks.
