Middle-class/Blue-collar community with a mediocre downtown area characterized by mom and pop businesses that open and close with a blink of an eye; not to mention a mightily struggling shopping center. The borough has a glaring lack of diversity; as a person of color who has been living here for almost a decade, only a handful of neighbors are welcoming towards my family and I. Let me conclude that the police department is incredibly proactive, and disproportionately targets minorities whom they feel cannot defend themselves.

I've been a resident of Pompton Lakes for 13 years and it is a very close knit community. The location is fantastic to get a little bit of everything. Close enough to New York City and other fast paced life, but just a few minutes away from nature and solitude. Public schools are great and help boost the community life.
Coming in at little under 3.2 square miles, Pompton Lakes is a safe, quiet, and close knit community with beautiful lakes where people know their neighbors. There is a charming downtown with a variety of shops or easily hop onto one of the major local highways in either direction for a 30 minute ride into NYC or Upstate New York.
