Pompano Beach, Florida, the hidden gem of the Sunshine State. This city is all about the eye of the beholder. With its rich history in agriculture, gorgeous beach, and historical landmarks, you'll definitely be receiving your money's worth of adoration. Pompano Beach has received many awards in schooling, and I must say our Nursing, Engineering, Sports, and Band programs in all levels of school are second to none. The job market is flourishing, with many opportunities to excel and move up within respective companies. The weather is a bit bipolar, but that's the tropical oasis of Florida for you! I highly recommend taking a trip to come and see what Pompano Beach has to offer for you and your family. Have those bags ready, because you'll be here to stay!
Street markings are not kept up. Public Works has too many employees for every day work and many just "waltz" through the day. Taxes are high for the services we get. The city commission does everything and more for the Beach area and practically nothing for the rest of the city. Policing is jobbed out to the county Sheriff's Dept. and little patrolling is done. After answering calls, most deputies sit and talk to other deputies, ride through the neighborhoods (windows up, air-conditioning on) unable to hear anything and so quickly they see little if anything. I have been here for over 35 years and nothing of any worth has changed. Good ol' boy politics as usual. Want a good hometown in Broward, I suggest Oakland Park, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Weston, Davie, Lighthouse Point, or Cooper City. Dania Beach seems to be getting it's act together, but I haven't been there in the last two years. Unless you have money and political influence, stay the heck out of Pompano Beach!
Pompano Beach is a city that offers multiple resources and presents a strong infrastructure to its people through the means of athletic fields, beaches, waterfront parks, libraries, and playgrounds for children. However, one thing to criticize would be the abundance of strip malls--I believe that the city could work to find more innovative ways to implement retail stores and restaurants. Reason being, strip malls do not contribute to the culture of a given place and most of the time, they are occupied by big brand names. I strongly believe that such spaces could be dedicated to providing resources for local communities and NGOs--therefore, giving back directly to the community and encouraging community activism. For only then, could diversity flourish--and diversity is a necessity for a thriving city. This could be translated to an opportunity to demolish the divide between citizens of Pompano Beach and work towards a more inclusive atmosphere for all--regardless of their backgrounds.
