Our seasonal patterns usually look a little like this:

Summer: brief, usually three months with temps in the 80's and sometimes in the 90's. Everyone heads to the Lake Region, the Cape or All Points Maine.

Fall- 2-3 months of cooler air, a true New Englander's favorite time of the year when the leaves begin to change from yellow, to orange,to red and then brown.

Winter-duration seems like a lifetime but is usually over 4 months bringing either record breaking snow or a skier's nightmare.

Spring- a welcome sight if the winter has brought lots of snow. Temps usually in the 60's and 70's.

Natural disasters are fairly uncommon in Massachusetts. It's a really hilly region, so no tornadoes, and it's too far north to get hit by hurricanes. It's too cold, and the atmosphere is too moist for wildfires or droughts. We get a tropical storm once every 20 or so years, but that's about it as far as disasters go. Winters here range from mild to brutal. Of all the above concerns, they are easily the most worrisome.
There's not a lot of crime, but the one time something somewhat serious happened, the military, state troopers, SWAT patrol, and armored vehicles all arrived with extreme quickness.
