It's a friendly small town with attractive shops - including an exceptionally
appealing Thrift Shop with truly affordable prices - some excellent restaurants, a fine library, and a long pier extending out into the Hudson River providing a delightful place for a three-mile - to the end and back - walk, while viewing birds - gulls, herons, eagles and owls, as well as general river activity. Benches are dispersed along the pier and the main street.
It is an area where I feel completely safe, whatever the time of day or night.

I would absolutely choose to live here permanently and buy, but the property costs are so high. That being said, we stay here and rent because the general atmosphere is so amazing--it's a blend of all of our favorite things. We are close to Manhattan, which is convenient for work. Yet we're in a true home with a yard, which backs up to a beautiful state park, which provides endless entertainment and outdoor activities for us and our young kids. Our entire town is walkable, which is a huge perk. We absolutely love it here.
This is a fantastic community to be a part of--it is vibrant, welcoming, and top-rate. Because we are still considered part of Metro NYC, we have access to an amazing array of community events that extend to all 5 boroughs. Still locally, there is always something going on, especially in regards to the local art and music scenes. The community is very pet-friendly, people are very active, going for walks/runs all along the Hudson river, and generally being out and about with one another, even through the Winter.
