Phoenix has its ups and downs like any other place, but overall pretty good in my opinion! Its hot as hell in the summer, but 8 months out of the year, perfect! No snow to shovel, and close enough to snow if you want to visit. Large airport, nice (east valley) suburbs, decent outdoor activities (golf/hike/bike). Arcadia/Camelback-East/Encanto/pretty cool if you are young. Ahwatuckee/N. Phoenix pretty solid for families. West/South Phoenix= YIKES, ghetto. Don't expect downtown Phoenix to be like other major cities as far as nightlife, that revolves around Scottsdale/Tempe.

Phoenix is growing, growing, growing! There are some areas that used to be just desert but there are now thriving businesses. It's a great location for just about anything, if you want to go shopping there are multiple malls. If you want the "student life" Tempe and Mill Ave as well as Central are amazing places to find small coffee shops as well great restaurants and ice cream shops. If you want a taste of nature, there are A LOT of mountains in which you can hike, all of them are different in their difficulty levels. Such as as superstition and Camelback Mountain. If you want to escape the heat, then Flagstaff, AZ is only a 2-3 hour drive away, and you can enjoy some great forest areas as well as 70 degree weather! So it really does not surprise me that so many people are moving to Phoenix, because really, there is just about everything here, or a great central location to get where you want.
Have lived in Phoenix my whole life and do not plan to leave! Personally, the hot weather does not bother me and the winters are beautiful. The small businesses all support each other and have a thriving community of patrons who encourage them and allow them to grow. On that note, the craft beer in particular is something to explore here if you have not. Many local breweries collaborate with each other, as well as other small businesses in the valley for events and pairings. Absolutely very underrated in culture in pride, Phoenix is worth a visit!
