Petersburg Reviews

it is a quiet community that is within an easy drive of several larger midwest cities, one of which is the state capital Springfield. Many people commute to work but there are many local job opportunities. there is very little crime, and if you have an issue you can walk in and speak to the chief of police or the mayor without an appointment any weekday. we have two ambulances services and a top-rated fire department. There is a grocery store and two pharmacies along with a medical clinic and an excellent vet office. the city was found by the residents of New Salem which is only three miles away. this is the New Salem of Abraham Lincoln fame. There are descendants from them still living here today. the area is famous for its old large homes. Mine was built in 1895. At this writing, there are six active churches. I grew up here and left, I just moved back after 34 years away. It has much of the same feel as it did then, just with a few more restaurants.
Petersburg is a small town, with small town feel. People are friendly and community minded. It is a good place to raise children and have a family. I would like to see more businesses come into the town and stay.
It is a small community the is very historical towards the history of Abraham Lincoln right before he chose to become a politician and run for president. Though it is very small and not much to do, the background makes it worth living here.
