Parowan Reviews

It isn't what it seems. Residents are surface friendly, but if you weren't born & raised here you're an outsider. This goes from feeling excluded to corruption with some officers not pressing charges against locals who commit crimes because they don't want to have them mad at them or they attend the same church. There is plenty of crime here but it's swept under the rug. The church has way too much power over government officials & it trickles into the schools too. If you have a problem with a teacher you can guarantee that it will be made to look like your fault if that teacher/staff member is of the same religion as the principal & other teachers you may come into contact with in their circle will start to act differently toward you too. Since Parowan is at the base of the ski resort a lot of seasonal employees are here for the winter too housed across from the grocery store & cause issues too, plus skiers/snow boarders race thru here to get up the mountain & treat locals poorly.
Parowan is an amazing little town of less than 3,000 people total in the whole town! My high school had about 300 kids starting from 7th-12th. Because it was so small there were good things about it and bad. Some good things were the chance to know everyone and being able to be involved in a lot of different activities with the school since they didn’t have a lot of students. It gave me a chance to come out of my comfort zone and participate and meet new people and friends. Some disadvantages is maybe feeling a little naive to the “real world” out there. Since it’s so small and the community is so close then you don’t get to experience life where you don’t know everyone and it can sometimes be hard to leave that safe little town and experience different and new things. But overall I love my little town and what it has shaped me to be.
Parowan has a lot of potential in its community and it is a beautiful and quiet town. It is also a low crime area; However, within the schools it demonstrates a lack of respect for cultural differences. The community is overall friendly.
