Paintsville is a small town, with limited employment opportunities. It is declining and is becoming an eye sore with pot holes in parking lots and businesses moving out. There are a number of empty buildings in the town and although tourism groups are beginning to make small steps towards keeping activities going, it is a boring small town with little to do, except in the summer. Very limited as far as restaurants and night life.

Paintsville is a nice little town, yet quite boring. The town is lovely and filled with very sweet people. The schools are at the top of their game both academically and in regards to sports. There are two grocery stores, which is plenty for a town with a population of five thousand, however, there is only one little tiny clothing store, forcing residents to drive at least an hour to purchase clothing or anything that yo can't buy in walmart or foodcity. The only entertainment in the town in a movie theatre that is so small that it only can show three movies at a time. There is a beautiful lake and some old timey attractions, but other than that, the town is practically dead.
I really like the small-town feel of Paintsville, Ky. The public schools are great and I wouldn't know what I would do without the guidance and counseling of the teachers and staff. The people of this town really know how to come together in a time of need. A couple things I would change about this area is to get more jobs rolling. In my college major search, I am very limited because I would like to stay in Paintsville or the surrounding area. The only big professional fields offered are majors in health care and education. Also, I would change the fact that there is nothing recreational to do around here. We have the movies, the lake with a park, and a public pool in the summer. It would be nice to not have to travel 45 minutes to an hour away to have a little fun and do something different. It would make a difference in kids' lives around here too. Many have nothing to do so when they're older, they take to drugs, drinking, and partying to have "fun."
