In the Village there are "flood houses" that should be torn down. They are dangerous. Previous Code Enforcement approved some of the houses were liveable when they're not. Unfortunately, for the tax payers of Owego, they keep the houses that are not rendered as safe on the books. That way Tioga County makes money.
Certain areas are sketchy. People doing and selling drugs. There's been an increase in crime. I felt more safe walking around Binghamton NY than Owego. A reason may be due to slumlords who buy "flood houses" and move people in who are on welfare, disability, etc. The number of tax payers are the minority of residents. They also accommodate sex offenders who live in range of children.
Owego is not the town it used to be.
The only best part of Owego is Front Street where there are nice small businesses, like coffee shops.

Owego is a nice small town with beautiful views of the river. There are many great restaurants to choose from such as Las Chicas, The Cellar, and MJ's. The school, Owego Free Academy, offers many great oppurtunities such as athletic internships, participation in clubs and athletics, BOCES, etc. However, I wish there were more job opportunities, it's hard finding work as a teen.
Small town atmosphere. Historical town with new up and coming businesses keeping it fresh and a wonderful place to live!
