Owatonna is the perfect location for a young family. We are in the center of many large cities such as Mankato, Rochester, and the Twin Cities. While our location is prime the town is a smaller town, which means that big name companies like Chipotle will not have a restaurant in Owatonna. Being a high schooler activities to do in the town can be limited. There needs to be an area where high school age kids can all hangout, other than target. Just this year our community passed a new high school referendum. The school buildings in Owatonna are outdated. The level of education that the teachers of Owatonna provide is top notch; however, as of right now their facilities don’t match their level. Owatonna sports teams have the ability to compete with the “city teams” and have made many state appearances. We have even walked away with some state championships.

Owatonna is a growing city with the benefits of a large town, as well as the opportunities of small city. The residents are often helpful and care deeply for their community. There are plenty opportunities for employment, being that Federated Insurance headquarters is located here. This brings a lot of business, and is allowing this town grow at a steady pace. The educational system is above average compared to those in the area, and a new school junior high building has been built, updating the educational system as more students are entering.
I currently live in Owatonna. One of my favorite things about Owatonna is the “Steele County Free Fair”. It is definitely worth taking the trip to visit in August each year. It’s nice because you don’t have to pay to get in and it’s large but not overly huge. Owatonna is a nice small town. Besides the fair food though, there doesn't seem to be enough sit-down dinner restaurants or breakfast options. They definitely need more childcare options, especially for newborns. They have a great parks-and-recreation department and options. Very pretty little downtown area, with many mom and pop shops, local businesses and eateries. There are a ton of parks, especially with very nice playgrounds! The people of Owatonna are for the most part very friendly and welcoming. I would like to see some more big stores as well as activities for younger kids.
