Overland Park Reviews
Rating 4.18 out of 5 468 reviews
My family and I lived in a townhouse in Overland Park for three years. It was a great area! Lots to do - shopping, theatres, dinning, parks, bowling, IFly, etc. Great libraries. Appreciated the diversity of the area as we are a mixed race family - didn't experience any racism here. Lots of employers in this area with decent wages. A variety of housing costs - definitely getting more expensive but you still get a pretty good bang for your buck with basements adding to overall floorspace. The roads and parking lots are spacious so I didn't experience too much driving anxiety. The Overland Park school system is nice but they put a lot of pressure on fundraising. Don't miss their annual Carnival - So fun! Watching the news is concerning due to lots of crime in the Kansas City area - we lived in the safer side of town but the lower income areas have a problem with thefts. When choosing where to rent/buy - definitely speak with a local.
Overland Park is a suburb of Kansas City, Kansas. It is a very family friendly area with good schools and lots of amenities. It is growing very rapidly. Overland Park is within driving distance to many attractions, outdoor activities, and surrounding states. The youth sports programs are abundant, and highly competitive, and youth extracurricular activities are offered for any and all areas of interest year round. Overland Park is a safe and friendly area, and has been a wonderful place to raise our children. Traffic is becoming an issue because of the continuous growth, however the city is responding to the population growth, building new neighborhoods, schools and businesses. Highways are being widened and new roads are being built. Johnson County has become a very affluent area, so prices (services and goods) have been inflated significantly, which is not the expectation for the Midwest.
Overland Park is a nice, warming, growing city, with lots of fun hidden things to do. For example, there are many fun hiking trails, exhibits, and neat restaurants to eat. Overland Park is apart of Kansas City, which is known for their barbecue. Because Overland Park is centralized, it is near downtown KC and other downtown areas. With lots of new land open for building, you can be apart of either a new or older neighborhood. Its a growing city with lots of opportunities to have fun, relax, and get out!
