Orinda is a dream of a town! We are Brooklynites and we have lived in some great cities, including: Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver BC, Paris, Philadelphia, Boston and LA (meh on the last two) and Orinda became a perfect fit when we had to raise two kids. SF has many great aspects, but it became somewhat unfriendly for kids. We bit the bullet and moved to Lamorinda. All places are great, but Orinda is so ideal for us. Competitive schools (top notch), close to BART, close to Berkeley, SF and other great areas. Besides Brooklyn, it's been our favorite place to live!

Love orinda! Great place to live. While there is diversity lacking, it's close to Berkeley and Walnut Creek. Pretty good restaurants, very family friendly, and safe.
Many residents grew up in the area and returned when they had children. It's very family oriented, vs. young singles (In terms of housing there really aren't any apartments here). Public schools are excellent, there are both many good affordable pre-schools and local colleges so one can find good childcare.
Public transportation to Orinda is excellent, it's only a 35 minute ride into SF. By car it's less than 30 minutes to the Oakland airport (or one can take BART, which stops and all takes less than an hour). Berkeley is 10-15 minutes away, Walnut Creek as well - and both are reachable using BART.
There are great community activities for all ages and lots of places to easily hike or bike.
We get very few days of fog and in the summer it's warmer than the bay area, but less hot than Walnut Creek.
