Orchards is great place. I have never had to deal with criminal activity in Orchards and that is rather amazing. It is very easy to find jobs in the area since there are so many stores and restaurants here. I currently live in Orchards and it is a very convenient place for school. It takes me about 10 minutes to get to my High School which is very nice. If I had to say one bad thing about Orchards, is that it is too small for so many people. Houses are constantly getting built and the traffic gets very bad. That is about it.
The area is ok. It has grown a lot over the years & has has become very busy over the years. Traffic has gotten worse with the developments of commercial and residential to the north and east of the area. The housing crisis does effect the whole city of Vancouver, which has led to many homeless people showing up more in this area, also increasing minor crime such as theft and burglary. The other bad part is that this area is part of Evergreen School District. I attended this district as a kid and now my kids attend this district and I hate it. Too many issues with the district in my opinion. From staff turning blind eyes to the bullying, drugs, just all around bad education, etc. I managed to get 1 child into another district and he is doing much better now. Overall, Even though Vancouver is my home city where I was born and raised, it's not Vancouver anymore and I cant wait to be able to leave this area and start new and fresh somewhere new.
I like Orchards mostly because I grew up in this suburb. There are markets and stores nearby. The houses look average, with some nicer ones in different parts of the suburb. Most neighbors of mine are nice and friendly. We try to help each other out when needed. I went to one of the public schools here in Orchards, and it was very nice. I don't know how it is now, but I'm not going to assume it went downhill without good information.
Overall, I think Orchards is a good suburb to live in. It is part country, and part city. It is always growing, that's for sure.
