Orangeburg is a dominate African-American population where education is at its worse. Though there are two colleges In this town, the public education here is at lowest of low. This town is also very segregated in that all the African-American students go to the low funded elementary and middle school and the wealthy whites all go to private schools in Orangeburg. There are some really good people here but the environment can be a drowning place to live.

Okay When I first moved to Orangeburg, SC from Savannah Ga back in 2006 to come to college, I was not very fond of the area. Orangeburg has definitely grown on me. Orangeburg is one of those areas (hidden gems) that many people will overlook due to it's not so great history in the past. I am here to tell you that even though it does not have many attractions currently (In the process of many attractions, stores and restaurants), It is a very nice place to raise children and retire. It has an extremely peaceful and relaxing vibe. The cost of renting here is very reasonable. The downside is the housing market. I never understood why so many houses are overpriced compared to other areas. I wish they would build more nice subdivisions like in the Lexington, SC area (reasonable in price). The education system here is not the best but it is not the worst. In my opinion there are a few tweaks Orangeburg could use but overall it really is a nice place.
Nice people but little to do, recreationally. There is no movie theater, bowling alley, and few festivals or restaurants. It's a rather small town. It is beautiful, however, and a lovely place to raise children. The schools are not great, but there are private schools that are good. Cost of living is inexpensive. Its impressively easy to buy a home in Orangeburg. Luckily, new industries are starting to form and the lifestyle and culture of this community is likely to change soon, for the better. Crime is an issue in any community but public safety is attentive and caring in Orangeburg, SC. There are also two colleges in town, making for a diverse community.
