Orangeburg, South Carolina is a small town that has the potential to be a great town, because of its location between the capital (Columbia) and Charleston. Orangeburg has not progressed in the last 30 years. So many talented and smart people were born here but left and took their talents and skills elsewhere. The town was left with people who lack vision and progression. The downtown area is nothing but old dilapidated buildings. Other small towns such as Aiken SC have created a thriving robust downtown with progressive local small businesses. Orangeburg can do the same with the right kind of progressive, smart, business minded, inclusive leadership. Revitalization needs to happen quickly if this town wants to survive. Visionary leadership that serves everyone.

Orangeburg South Carolina is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. It has a lot of potential and hidden treasures. Orangeburg is conveniently located between Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina and major hub that is close to interstate I-20, I-95, I-26 and I-77. The culture in the community is changing from a stagnated "keep things the same old way" to being more attractive for industry and businesses coming to the area. Recently construction has started on the VA Clinic that will be located in this area. A full service "sit in" Starbucks is scheduled to open October 2020. The Technical College has a premier nursing program and positioned to support any technical jobs locating to the area. Orangeburg is the hidden gem of the south.
As a transplant from Maryland, I find that Orangeburg is positively lacking. It is a college city with two historic black colleges but there is nothing to do. Closest movie theater is in Columbia as is the nearest entertainment. There isn't much in the way of a few good local restaurants and fast food. I do not intend on living here long as there is not much here in the way of jobs or even quality healthcare facilities. It has pretty bad violence reports but I personally have never seen anything. My suggestion is to skip this place. The housing is costly for what is around the area.
