- Suburb of Miami, FL

Don't live here. I've lived here for 5 years and this is the worst neighborhood I've lived in Miami, and I've lived in just about every single neighborhood. There is always shootings occurring in my neighborhood and I have a lot of my friends that has had at least 1 person they knew (like family members) murdered recently because of gangs mistaking innocent civilians for gang members. Too much drugs and the streets are SO DIRTY and littered. It's very dangerous getting out especially as a female. I've been followed because I'm a female in the early 20's and it can turn bad very quick. Drivers are crazy as well. The houses here are unique as it looks like something out of the middle east and the rent is the cheapest here out of the whole city, but there's a reason to why it is. I've gone to high school living here and it was HORRIBLE. Do yourself a favor and don't live here, it's very dangerous. Crime is very very high in the area.
I would like to see the mayor's do more for the community. Since I've been in this neighborhood I see no activities for the kids, the senior citizens and more. During covid, no food assistance in the area was provided. It would also be great for them to give us new garbage cans, as the ones we have a breaking down.
Opa-Locka has really expanded and grown in the last few years. More business, schools and a diversity of people have moved in to the neighborhood.
Opa Locka has Moorish architecture and unique street names (ex: Ali Baba Avenue). However, crime rate is still high and drug deals still exist in the area. Despite these problems, it is a decent place to live and is central to all major highways. The city is improving as there are new elected officials. Currently the city is undergoing an federal investigation for several illegal activities, but in due time, it should clear up and be a better place.
Being that I was raised in this city, I enjoy it more than visitors will. The environment is clean, and diverse. Mostly Haitians and Hispanics are residents. One thing I enjoy about this city is Pepper Park where there are many recreational activities (such as baseball, tennis, football, and basketball) that you can do on your free time. One thing I dislike about Opa Locka are the drivers. The neighborhood is calm in the morning but at night since there are not many cars on the road, some love to speed. If you're a new driver like me you'd want to avoid driving at night! All in all its a friendly place with low crime and many activities you'd enjoy.
My experience living in Opa Locka has been a positive one. I am close to shopping, schools and awesome doctors in the neighboring city of Miami Lakes.
My battle buddy lives there, I'm always there. It seems like every day someone is on the run from the police. Teen gangs always on the streets bullying younger teens. If people can come together and rebuild the area it would be a nice place to visit and feel safe.
The community is Very beautiful with a full range of near-by shopping locations. There are plenty of schools in the area. The only thing I would like to see more of is parks and community centers for children.
Opa-locka is a city where families generally don't leave, children grow up and also raise their kids not to far from where they grew up. Everyone knows everybody and it feels like one big family. However, there are moments where Opa-locka forgets it's morales and values, the city becomes a place where the younger generation feels like the city is there big playground.
My experience in Opa- Locka, FL comes with plenty of trails and tribulations to overcome. Although this is considered a suburb of Miami Florida, for those living under the circumstances it is not the best place to live. The areas of Opa-Locka come with poverty, violence, homelessness, poor education systems, and etc. there is things that I do like about my community. The people in the community value unity so this demonstrates how friendly citizens are to each other. Something I believe could change in my community is getting those who live within the neighborhoods to be more involved in the decisions made to improve it.
My experience applying for this scholarship was very simple and easy to finish. I have no complaints about this experience whatsoever! I also love how this website helps people connect to schools and universities easily which can help save time when attempting to apply for scholarships. It brings them right to your laptop! Thanks Niche!!!!
Crime and safety isn't the issue. Police are active and on site quite often. The only concerns I have are neighbors because I do live in an apartment complex, there is a lot of drama.
Living here is only okay because I've been here for so long and it seems my mom is comfortable. If I had the opportunity to move I would. Better financial changes would be a blessing and will probably make a difference.
I'm not sure what the nightlife is really like in my area, I don't go out after a certain due to my work hours
Experience in the past was okay , i can say that its slightly getting better.
Businesses in this area are average. Really aren't any retail stores that i can say i love to shop at.
