It is a great area to live, the school systems are amazing and everything is within quick driving distance. The neighborhoods are very welcoming and with Michigan State University right around the corner, you can meet people from all over the world. The community is very diverse and there are many activities going on all over the town. Make sure to visit the farmers market at the mall on Saturdays. There is a lot of fresh produce and homemade home products. If you are looking for a place to eat, there are many restaurants and fast food places throughout the area and Meijer can provide the ingredients for all of the yummy homemade dishes you are preparing.
Ideal family community. Strong public schools. The high school has full range of AP classes, kids score 4-5's. Excellent school music and art programs. Very safe. Kids make friendships across social classes. Religiously diverse metro area with Jewish synagogues, an Islamic mosque, a Hindu and Jain temple, churches with services in Chinese, Korean, and Spanish, African American churches, etc. Restaurants and grocery stores from many cultures. Many cultural opportunities at MSU. Parks, trails, lakes, farmer's market.
I love everything about Okemos! I grew up here and hope to raise my family here as well. The public schools are by far the best in Mid-Michigan. I felt extremely prepared to go into college and was well above many other students. The math classes I took in college were even easier than the ones I took at Okemos. In addition, it is very safe and clean. There are some good restaurants, my favorite being Dusty's, but this is an area I think they can improve in.
