We live about 10 minutes from Oakland, but consider it our "home-base"! Numerous fast food choices, and several "sit-down" restaurants representing the major food types have opened doors.....so, dining is good. If you want something "fancier"....you're just 30 minutes or less from it in Memphis.
Plenty of banks and there are grocery, hardware, and retail stores in Oakland. First-rate golf course.....and while schools are not an issue for my family, I understand they are good and getting better. New houses/subdivisions popping up all over Oakland....appears the word is out. Great police presence, hence Oakland is very safe. Housing for all budgets; low taxes. Oakland has it all!

I have lived in Oakland for my entire life. It is a relatively small suburban/rural town on the outskirts of Memphis, TN. It is a quiet town! For a teenager, I would say that there is not much to do besides going to the local Sonic or Walmart on a weekend. Also, some parts of the town (the busy places) often smell bad in the early mornings or in the evenings due to the questionably ran sewer/water treatment plant. I think that anyone living in Oakland, myself included, would enjoy it much more if there were less fast food chains set as
development priorities. Oakland needs better roads and more activities for the residents.

What I really like most about Oakland is the town. It's almost like everyone knows everyone. It's a small town that is in need of a make-over. The traffic can get very combusted. Overall the crime rate is low. The Elementary and Junior high schools are available to students within their school zones. There are so many beautiful homes located on area lots and acres of land out in the country. The people are friendly!!
I would like to see more food chains. These are just a few of the restaurants that I would like to see in the near future. For instance, we need a Target, Captain D's, Chick-fil-A, and of course Cook Out. I would really like to see this town on the grow in the future!!!
