Overall, Northport is a great place to live with nice people and easy access to the water. The downtown area is beautiful and has many great restaurants, retail stores, and even a brewery. Great place if you have kids and the public parks downtown are dog-friendly. I grew up here and attended the public schools. Overall, my experience with the schools was very good and felt that they prepared me well for University. If you want to learn there are many resources available and Northport HS has many AP classes and an IB Diploma Program. As with most of Long Island, taxes are high, but the school taxes are partially subsidized by the Northport Power Plant.
Its a good place to live, if you can afford it. The high school features an IB diploma program and many of its students go on to prestigious universities and noble careers. But packaged with that is a high cost of living and all-too-common bands of roving teenagers and bros.
Its beautiful here, and the schools are decent. Only problem is the high price of living. Also, very little diversity.
