Incredibly safe places to live and for kiddos to grow up. Access to hundreds of different stores and restaurants, always something to do! Many different religious areas, such as Orthodox Catholic and Orthodox Jew, who create a safe and welcoming environment. Outside play is seen daily and encouraged. Amazing place to live.
North Druid Hills is a very lively community that offers more than enough access to restaurants, markets, parks and trails to not even want to go further into Atlanta. But if you want to, then Midtown is about 15 minutes away. Downtown & the Airport are about 20-25. Quick access to i85, highway 78, Buford Highway.
It's very walk-friendly and clean. You are rarely more than 5-10 minutes away from anything what you need - unless it's during rush hours. Shopping centers are conveniently located together in each area. People are nice. There are well-maintained, peaceful and quiet trails along North Druid Hills.
I love it, but housing is EXPENSIVE (>$400K for a simple 3bdrm) so most people rent. Public schools are good depending on your zone.

The area has a small suburban feel, but it is within 10-15 minutes in all directions to neighborhoods and regions in metro Atlanta. Where I live, we are surrounded by trees with winding roads, so it feels less polluted by noise and car exhaust. The only thing I would like to see changed is the traffic -- we've seen more cars on our road from commuters and the occasional fast driver.
