I was born and raised here and absolutely love Newport and this community. I currently live in Charleston SC and visit Newport occasionally. Newport has beautiful beaches, tons of history, gilded age mansions, sailing, great seafood and restaurants, shopping and the list goes on. The only drawbacks for me are the long cold winters and the incredible housing expense (it wasn't like that when I was growing up). Its not affordable for the average person to buy a home in this community anymore and the job market isn't great either. A lot of the revenue here comes from tourism which is seasonal- less than 6 months a year. If you have money and a good job I would move here - if not its a fantastic place to vacation

Love the water and the nightlife, great place to study and conduct research in peace. Lots of restaurants with great pizza, mansion viewing is inspiring and coffee is great safe and diverse area family friendly.
Life long resident. Always beautiful in any season. Tourist town. Always events & festival's. Friendly, low crime, parks, Video casino, Naval Base, Mansions, Tennis Hall of Fame, Yachting, parades, and the history alone is worth a trip to Newport. Schooling is good here and getting even better. Salve college and the Community College of RI, private and public schools and the MET School are located here. Restaurants, stores and bars/ pubs are abundant. Expensive to live but worth it. Newport can use things for family activities like bowling and roller skating... Many community agencies and churches are here. Our beaches and seafood are as famous as our city. I love our little "City By The Sea".
