Newport Beach is a beautiful coastal city. There are lots of opportunities for tourists to enjoy the city at places like the Balboa Funzone, Orange County Fair (July-August), and so much more!
I love the beach, but the people here tend to be a little too snooty for me. Crime rates are low. Since the "pandemic", there has been a substantial and surprising rise in homelessness and drug use on the streets.
The best thing about Newport aside from the beautiful beaches is it's still beautiful, despite some of the rotten apples. The cost of living is quite high, but the quality of life is good, as is life expectancy.
Shopping is abundant and overpriced. Families tend to be overprotective of their kids and property. West Newport is more laid back around the Costa Mesa border.
Corona Del Mar has the best kept secret beach paradise, Little Corona. There is a protected marine life refuge there, where one can spend their days exploring the tide pools, caves, and lots of interesting rocks and marine life with caution PLEASE! (:
The weather is perfect year round. I don't even need a warm coat in the winter usually, but I am very hardy when it comes to cold climates.

Newport is an affluent town that I could not characterize as urban, suburban, or rural. It has a population of just over 130,000, and is on the most expensive side of the spectrum as far as living conditions. It has beautiful communities and amazing beaches, but doesn't have many centers of culture or diversity. In many ways, living in Newport is like living in a bubble that overlaps with reality. Many residents may deal with what the average person deals with, but so many more never have to worry about financial security or debt, and can simply enjoy themselves. Overall, it is extremely fun in the moment, but unless you are the top one percent of the one percent, this lifestyle may be fleeting.
