An enclave of Fremont, this is just a gem of a city, getting better and smarter everyday. The transit-oriented-development, now called Bayside Newark, around the Thornton-Willow area is an amazing plan by the city (special shoutout to development director Terrence Grindall). This new community has easy access to companies like Facebook in Menlo Park and Mountain View just across the Dumbarton bridge. Overall, Newark is an amazing place to raise a family and lead a peaceful life, thanks to the efficient police force, the bird sanctuary and walking trails, the upcoming Newpark Mall with an great movie theater, incredible food places covering several cuisines, shops and activity centers. Newark, CA just rocks!
Newark has grown into a very diverse area, which is awesome, however it is so busy that the traffic, commute time, and congestion in general, can be annoying. It is convenient as it is centrally located in the Bay Area and the weather is great all year round. The nightlife is nothing to write home about, although there are great restaurants- any kind of food you are looking for, Newark has it. There are also plenty of places to shop. The public transit system and BART make it fairly easy to get around the city itself as well as out to the rest of the Bay Area.
Newark is a small residential town which has grown up with bigger/more commercial Fremont/Union City, but it's certainly greener than Union City and safer than Fremont. It's the city which is somewhat mid way between San Jose and Oakland/San Francisco, and is also the city which connects the East Bay to the West Bay. Not much to complain, not much to appreciate, it is a normal suburb for families.
