The town of New Lexington is definitely a special place. It is very small with a population of about 4,000. This is not really a town many people move into, it is more of a town that generations of families grow up. One of the most important things that make our community so special is our schools athletics! Friday night football games are the best nights of the year! Everyone comes out to support and cheer on our local New Lexington Panthers! On nights like these we are one, we are unified, we are all cheering for the same team, the same community. However, other than that there is not much to do in this small town. All we have are fast food restaurants and an old run down park that does not get used very often. Other than that, this is definitely the most boring, but special place I have ever lived.
New Lexington may be a small town, but has a big heart. Most people residing in New Lexington are family, or accepted as family. New Lex has wonderful parks and schools and safe neighborhoods and a clean environment. We have a no kill animal shelter and many community events!
I have loved growing up in a small town. I love the feel of a small town and the safe feeling of living in the country. It has been a great experiencing growing up here, overall.
It is a nice little town with the usual quirks and oddities, but otherwise, a pleasant enough place to live. The local government needs to do a better job at upkeeping the roads and the school system needs a serious overhaul, but those are topics the populace decides through elections.
I've lived four years now and here's my thoughts on New Lex. The town hasn't built anything in a long time, most houses are not taken care of and are falling apart, so with that- eye sores everywhere. The restaurants are awful. The grpcery stores match the town, a rundown kroger and a sav a lot. If you want to go to a decent restaurant or store, you're looking at 45 minutes on the road.. most the people here are nice but poverty is in abundence here. Mowing ypur lawn seems loke the fun thing to do around here. Our son is almost a year, and we don't want him to grow up here. There's nothing here. People who have lived in Ohio their whole life, don't even know about this place... get me outta here!!!
I've lived here as long as i can remember it is a good town i just think there could be more things for kids and teens to do. we do have a really nice park and a pool for the summer. i think if maybe we had like a rec center the town could be even better
New Lexington is a nice little village located in SE Ohio. There are several hiking trails in the area which offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities!
We don't have very much crime in New Lexington. Despite the occasional domestic dispute or speeding ticket, New Lexington is a rather calm and collected town full of very respectable citizens.
New Lexington is a very small rural town, which is an automatic turnoff for many. I, however, absolutely love it. I love all the historical buildings, and I absolutely adore the small town feel of life. I like that everybody knows one another, and that everybody knows that they're welcome into one another's homes whenever the need be. I absolutely adore the calm atmosphere of things, and I wouldn't trade my town for anything. Sure, it would be great to travel the world, and nobody really knows where life is going to take them, but I know that deep down I will always hold a special place in my heart for New Lex.
My review of this area is great because I have lived here all my life. I am use to the small rural town life and this area is a perfect fit for me and my family. The atmosphere in the community is friendly and people help others in times of need. I would chose to live here again as I have been a resident of New Lexington all my life and I am comfortable here. The crime rate is lower than some areas in the country. I see growth in the future for this area.
From Burr Oak to Ludowinci Tile Plant Trail, Hocking Hills, to many backyards, nature can be enjoyed. Hunting is prevalent here, and there are many places to go. The reservoir offers fishing permits and trails for hiking. Perry County ATV area is on the outskirts of town, and there are plenty of places to walk and enjoy nature.
Most crimes committed in town or petty theft, and drugs. The officers have been working hard to decrease the drug crimes and trafficking in the county. Police are always visible, easily contacted, and usually quick to respond.
Most of public transportation and safety services are quick and sufficient. Improvements need made with the county's DD funding.
There aren't as many opportunities as there should be. Many people have to go out of town for jobs in Zanesville, or even Columbus, but they stay within an hour distance normally.
Subway, Taco Bell, McDonald's and Wendy's have you covered with Fast-food. There are also several pizza joints, but Dodson's on Broadway is local and family-owned. They also serve chicken, homemade noodles and other delicious foods. Neighboring them is Cheng's Gourmet Chinese Restaurant for a diverse selection. Trotter's and Sideliners Bar and Grill offer quality food for great prices. Both bars are small and fun venues during game time. Sideliners offers more of a dancing scene, more room for live music.
There are several family-owned businesses in the small town of New Lexington, from Ogden's Insurance and Real Estate, to Thompson's Insurance. Great array of flower arrangements from Seal's Flower Shop, and groceries from Kroger, Save-A-Lot, or CVS. Need to fuel up why you're in town, there are several gas stations: Certified, Circle K, Bell Store, Wolfe's Huff and Puff. Wanna get healthy? New Dimensions has a gym and tanning beds available for getting fit and ready for summer. Healthy's on Main offers many wonderful healthy opportunities. Need a new do? The Beauty Hut on Brown St. can hook ya up, and there are at least 10 other salons in town. In the summer, there is a local farmer's market near the courthouse, and overall, New Lexington fills many needs right in the area. Three car dealerships are available for buy or trade. A park, churches, healthcare facilities; a wonderful opportunity for DD integration at PerCo Recycling Center, and much more! No need to go anywhere else!
Lack of jobs, except for minimum wage positions
