New Carlisle is a rather interesting town. I remember during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were numerous Black Lives Matter protests that took place throughout the nation. In New Carlisle, there were people that stood outside of their houses armed with guns in case "things got messy". I thought this was absolutely insane. I have also seen numerous drug busts and witnessed violence just on my street alone. Despite all of this being bad, there have been some good things that I have experienced. The town always puts up a Christmas tree during Christmas. It is always decorated and it is very tall. The town also has a New Years ball drop. In retrospect, I think the little traditions that unite the town make the town an okay place.
It has a nice hometown feeling. You can not go uptown to run errands without seeing at least one person that you know. I have lived here my entire life & I could not imagine growing up anywhere else. The neighborhoods are clean and safe. The schools are very nice. There is a good park and bike path for public use. Although the town is very small, there is always something fun you can find to do.
This is a bedroom community that has declined since the closing of the GM plant in 2008. Population is mostly white (retirees and young lower income), although there is also a nice Latinx community here. Ideal place to live if you're old, white, and wish it was still the 1950's.
