West Hills is a lovely, quiet and relatively safe family suburb in the western San Fernando Valley. That is, if you can ignore the almost-nightly drag-racing and "donuts" on major streets (Roscoe, Valley Circle, Platt, Woodlake). LAPD lacks resources to deal with that effectively. Neighbors tend to keep to themselves except for those who interfere with the rights of others but I suppose every neighborhood has at least a couple of those. Politics are a bit divisive. The hospital is busy. Schools are very good. Homelessness is less of a problem here than in neighboring Canoga Park, and elsewhere in Los Angeles County. Plenty of shopping but many small stores shut permanently due to the way Covid-19 was handled on a county and state level. Housing is in short supply due to expensive homes.
The residents can be pretty rude and self centered. The sound of barking dogs and gardening tools is a regular thing, because wealthy retired people need their perfect little lawns trimmed 4 times a week and can't be bothered to pause Netflix and get off their expensive couches to shush their dumb dogs who bark for hours. The residents of this neighborhood love to drive like complete jerks in their Audi Q series, which EVERYONE seems to drive around here. Typical keeping up with the jonses behavior. And apparently if your a man walking by yourself, you're automatically a nefarious person in the eyes of overly paranoid and judgemental female residents who go out walking.
West Hills, California is a peaceful area. It is close enough to the typical hustle and bustle of LA but far enough that there is some normalcy on the roads. It is the kind of place where you will always see joggers and walker on the roads and sidewalks. Its public schools are some of the best around, neighboring communities often send their kids to West Hills schools. As for affordability it is not quite reachable for many, but the Los Angeles area isn't really known for being cheap. There is not much of a night life in west hills as it is a small community. There are many opportunities in the area in terms of jobs. Many resident live long and fruitful lives.
