Torresdale Reviews
Rating 3.54 out of 5 28 reviews
While it is not a suburb of Philadelphia, historically rich Torresdale is nestled at the very edge of the city, creating a distinctive boundary of single family houses that makes it feel like it is. I grew up here during the 1960s and early 1970s; it has not changed all that much from the days when Torresdale along with adjacent neighborhoods was called the the “great northeast”, referring to the direction that the statue of William Penn — perched atop the once towering city hall — is facing. Indeed, some have referred to this sprawling extension of the city as the “lily white northeast”, poking fun at the racial division that was formed by the stronghold of predominantly white residents in this area of the city who resisted integration. For that reason I could not escalate the value of the rating beyond 4 stars. Yet, I must add that the one black family in the neighborhood earned the distinction as the favorite among residents because they were the most neighborly.
Torresdale is a relatively safe place. Certain areas are better than others, but overall really safe. There aren't really any schools, but you can travel to schools closer to the city. It is a very family friendly area and is maintained nicely. There isn't all that much diversity, but people are nice. It is a good distance away from the city. It takes about 30 minutes to commute to the city from Torresdale. There aren't many job opportunities, but you commuting is always an option.
A relatively safe, friendly neighborhood. Not many job opportunities, but it is a good and reasonable distance from the city and the suburbs.
