The proximity to JFK makes it great if you take frequent trips, however the commute, deeper into Queens or even Manhattan, is terrible as public transportation requires a bus and a train to go almost anywhere and almost never in a straight line. The food options are mostly fast food (McDonald's) and mom and pop Caribbean style restaurants (I recommend Forever Jerk) and until recently, the section of the area I live in was a virtual food desert. The Fine Fare on Farmers Blvd has only recently opened (C-Town closed around 2009/10 if I'm not mistaken) forcing residents to either go to the local bodega or travel to Stop & Shop (formerly Pathmark) on Springfield and Merrick (not ideal if you don't have a car). There is a little diversity and crime is fairly low (gun incidents seem to be rising). Overall it's generally quiet and there are schools for families. If you are looking for nightlife, food choices and more of an overall mosaic of an existence, this isn't where you want to be.
Realistically, Springfield Gardens is a widely known place area in New York. It can be both enjoyable and dangerous. However I’ve enjoyed my time here due to its extreme diversity. There are many cultures and many different people that live here. People that shape Springfield and benefit it’s streets.
Springfield Gardens is a neighborhood in southeast Queens. It's fairly quiet and good for families. Many places to get food and go for a walk. Many residents come from various backgrounds such as Jamaica.
