I've lived in Southside since the summer of 2017 (senior year of undergrad), and I've had a great time living here. It was built for the steel factories that lined the river bank, the neighborhood reflects that. Nowadays, it's a lot of current college students, post-grads, and young urban professionals. There's so many bars and restaurants to go to so nightlife deservedly gets an A+ here. Typically every Friday and Saturday night the streets are lined with people bar-hopping and I'd say it's the best nightlife scene Pittsburgh has to offer.

It's growing as a neighborhood for young urban professionals and those looking for that party-experience once they graduate. But in terms of buying a home or raising a family I'd say look elsewhere. There are no major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target anywhere near the vicinity and it is PITA to go to basic retailers to get home supplies, electronics, or anything other than food and drinks(Aldis, Giant Eagle).

I have lived in this area since junior year of college and love it. It's not too far from a movie theatre, great food, and multiple bars with great music. There is a little of everything in this area to party or even enjoy a quiet social evening with friends. Its nicely divided like that, to enjoy both sides.

On the other hand, parking in the area can be pretty rough. Especially as you get down closer to the south side bars on East Carson Street. I have lived here for a while now so I would prefer walking my way around if I am meeting people there. It is quite a walk, to be honest, it may be too much for most people, but I am used to getting my way around that way.
I like the atmosphere and that it's great for college students and young professionals. There are other families and older couples here, which makes for a great mix in the community, with people always solidly there, along with the college students that make things a little lively.
