I've lived in the valley for the past 15 years. I may be biased, but I believe that it is an excellent place to raise a family and find opportunity. Panorama City provides a great deal of access to not only the San Fernando Valley, but also the greater LA Area. The LA Metro allows people access to the entire LA County for an extremely reasonable price. While it would be faster to travel by car, it is much more cost efficient. The buses are regularly available, allowing commute times to be relatively flexible. The abundance of shopping centers and restaurants allow not only many places to socialize but also many employment opportunities. Overall, Panorama City is a great place to live due to its great accessibility to opportunity and essentials. Although it is relatively costly to live in the area, it is still affordable and healthy to live in.
As much as I love living in Panorama City because of the diversity and usual quiet neighborhood, living here is not the safest. In the past five years two of my neighbors right next to my house were robbed and my house was an escape route for these criminals. Housing is pretty affordable compared to the rest of LA county and overall living here is not too bad. There are many close by retail stores and restaurants, even schools within walking distance.
Panorama City is a great place to get a starter apartment. I've never felt unsafe in this neighborhood, perhaps just a little crowded. Most of the apartments in my building are filled with pairs of young roommates or families.
The parking isn't great, but when I look at the prices to live in other neighborhoods, I feel like the trade off was worth it for me.
I have really good credit right now, but when I moved in four years ago, I hadn't even had a credit card. Most places wouldn't even consider my application to live there. Although I had to pay more by offering to pay my first and last month's rent before moving in (and a deposit) it really helped me out that my landlord was willing to work with me instead of turning me away for lack of a credit history.
