Nice neighborhoods with low gang activity. Close to a couple of libraries. Public transportation nearby close to trolly line. Not very much gang activity, but graffiti can be found in most places. Many school and parks nearby with after school programs. A bike ride away from the beach, with nice weather year round. Storms tend to avoid this area and hit inland and northern cities more.

The experience in this area is not great but it is okay. I would say neighbors are friendly and you will make friends quickly but the city does need to do a better job of keeping the area clean. Also, the schools in this area are lacking good education and professors. My mom transferred my brother and sister to a school in chula vista for the reason that our area lacks schools with good scores and because this area is considered to be "ghetto." However, I did attend all 3 schools in our area and I would say that I am doing fantastic, and transferring to Long Beach State in fall 2016. If I could make a choice whether to live here or somewhere else then I would definitely suggest to my parents to pick a better area to live in. Simply driving up to eastlake we can see the difference of community and houses. The area looks cleaner, better maintained, and less homeless people. In the future I am not so sure that this area will have much improvements because a lot of the homes being bought are elders and they will not usually modernize their home. Also, when my family and I arrived to this area it as same as how it is now. The homes are beginning to look better, they are repainted or being remodeled but I feel it is more the society in the area that is not quite changing but getting more influx of homeless families.
Crime and Safety in this are is not excellent. Although we do see plenty of police roaming around the area, crimes are still being committed. Now I do not see or hear of too many crimes but what we do hear often is people going around stealing from inside cars and stealing from other individuals belongings. Also, I find our streets to be very unsafe because cars are constantly driving by very fast on a 35mph limit zone or even on the freeway and I do not see police giving a ticket out to someone. This speeding situation is quite irritating and worrying because in many neighbor hood there are many children out playing with friends and they usually use the street to play, putting them at risk.
