Ocean Beach is a wonderful and up coming community. It is affordable, which is a HUGE plus considering living by the beach is typically expensive. Being a student and working I cant afford a beach front property but I am fortunate to live only blocks from the ocean itself. I enjoy being able to walk down the street for groceries or grabbing a quick bite to eat. I am very social and appreciate a neighborhood that is extremely friendly and where you run into friends often. There are plenty of places to study with incredible views. It is the perfect definition of a classic small beach town.

I moved to San Diego in 2008 and instantly feel in love with Ocean Beach! It has an extremely mild, low-key hippie vibe to it and it always brought a sense of peace. The waves are great for surfing! The dog beach is wonderful to bring your pet and there is plenty of parking during early mornings. They have a great bike trail. They have some of the best diversity in restaurants options! The Wednesday Farmer's Market is the best in San Diego! They have a plethora of food and local artisan/farm vendors. They also have a local organic cooperative grocery store called People's that I frequent often. The neighborhood is warm, friendly and for the most part, safe.
I wish that more folks were respectful of the natural beauty! There are lot of transient folks that hang out under the pier and often bring disturbances with drug use, littering and loitering. Without a sufficient system that provides the necessary recourses for drug users, it will remain an ongoing issue.
I love the community and "beach time" attitude, but there are a lot of homeless in this town and they hang out under the pier often. I enjoy the restaurant, which are diverse and usually very open or have out door seating. This is great if you have a dog and want to bring them along. There is also dog beach that is specific for bring your dog along with you to the beach. People do let their dogs off of there leashes sometimes times so you just have to cautious at times. One problem is though in Ocean Beach, is that there are often pedestrians that tend to walk in the streets and cross with out cross walks or not at the stop signs, making driving here difficult at times. Over the close proximity to the beach and great restaurants outweighs any negative aspects of the town and for that I give Ocean Beach five stars.
