North Lawndale Reviews

I recently moved in a few months ago, as of now I haven't had any problems. I've met a few of the nearby neighbors and they are all very welcoming and nice. That's not to say that there is a few trashy and inconsiderate people. Those I tend to keep away from and just mind my own business. This neighborhood has a lot of potential. At least the area south of Ogden seems to be much calmer in terms of violence. I have hopes that in a few years changes happen as there are many vacant lots, many residential buildings and grocery stores are welcome! I do have to say there is a lot of trash. My family tries to go out at least once a month to clean our local block in hopes we slowly start inspiring people to do the same.
Living in the North Lawndale community, is very hard because of the black on black crimes that are committed. The lack of opportunities as well as the lack of housing. It is not the ideal place to live, however it serves as HOME. This is a non productive community and the sale of drugs, followed by the violence makes living here very uncomfortable. Some areas of this community are a reflection of a ghost town, due to many of the abandon buildings. Buildings that were once home to African American, who worked hard to obtain the American dream of being home owners. The dream has somehow die in the North Lawndale community and replaced with hopelessness.
North Lawndale isn't necessarily an easygoing area. The neighborhood is very rough and dangerous. There are lots of murders on a daily basis. Although this is the case, the residents know how to come together and have a good time on occasion, especially when the event is pertaining to kids. The street where I live is somewhat peaceful, but I am literally around the corner from the violence. I have even had an incident where I was almost shot walking home from school back in 2016. The public school system is failing students by focusing more on the children who are misbehaving, rather than the children who are actually trying to succeed in school.
