Living in the North Lawndale community, is very hard because of the black on black crimes that are committed. The lack of opportunities as well as the lack of housing. It is not the ideal place to live, however it serves as HOME. This is a non productive community and the sale of drugs, followed by the violence makes living here very uncomfortable. Some areas of this community are a reflection of a ghost town, due to many of the abandon buildings. Buildings that were once home to African American, who worked hard to obtain the American dream of being home owners. The dream has somehow die in the North Lawndale community and replaced with hopelessness.

North Lawndale isn't necessarily an easygoing area. The neighborhood is very rough and dangerous. There are lots of murders on a daily basis. Although this is the case, the residents know how to come together and have a good time on occasion, especially when the event is pertaining to kids. The street where I live is somewhat peaceful, but I am literally around the corner from the violence. I have even had an incident where I was almost shot walking home from school back in 2016. The public school system is failing students by focusing more on the children who are misbehaving, rather than the children who are actually trying to succeed in school.
The summer isn't the safest to be outside due to the violence occurring. Gunshots can be heard and reality starts to set in. Perhaps a few blocks down, someone may have lost a son, a father, a mother, or a daughter, all for what? Just so someone can show the power they have to take someone's life. My block used to have many teens(who did not live there) hanging around during the daylight and the nighttime. It would be 10pm and screaming/laughter could be heard outside. Due to a horrible incident within the block, they no longer come to disrupt the peace and the block has then returned to its natural state, peaceful. Occasional gunshots can be heard but overall, the community isn't as bad as what a few individual wants it to be.
