North Berkeley is a fantastic place to live and visit. There are many fantastic restaraunts and shopping areas where one can meet new people and explore different cultures. For a city so close to such major economic hubs for the country, one would expect a functioning transit system and up to date infrastructures, however I often feel like we are far behind the times in many arenas. The wage gap is depressing; the entire Bay Area suffers from gentrification and mass homelessness. This causes a multitude of other problems, such as tent cities, drug abuse, and large amounts of garbage creating serious health risks for everyone. There is a lot we can improve upon, however I love Berkeley. I can be myself here.

Nice area, very safe. However, like most cities in the Bay Area, the cost of living is very high as are rents. I was only able to afford living here because of rent control. I am also on of a few minorities in my neighborhood and most people living in my neighborhood are older/retired.
Best areas - North Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito.

Worst areas - South Berkeley (crime-wise), Oakland, Emeryville

A lot of greenery interwoven with housing designs but depending on above areas - properties can be overgrown or really well taken care of. In my area, they're pretty well maintained.
