We've lived here for four years and love this little neighborhood. I love that it feels almost like a cozy little suburb, but you are only a few bus stops away from busier parts of the East End. Having two bus lines run through the neighborhood means that you never have to wait long. The neighborhood drugstore, restaurant/bar, and the coffee shop all offer great walkable conveniences, but your also close to the stores in East Liberty or across the river at Waterworks. Everyone is really friendly, a lot of older residents, but also a ton of young families with small children. Unfortunately, it is not very diverse, being predominately white though. Overall though it's a really quiet, friendly, and safe neighborhood in the East End.
Morningside is a safe and quiet neighborhood. Like most places in the city, there can petty crimes like car breakins. It is very friendly, meaning that people are constantly stopping to greet their neighbors. Since the neighborhood is popular right now, residents seem to either be long-time locals (some up to 60 years!) or young families (and a ton of babies and dogs). Two bus routes go through Morningside which makes it easy to get downtown, Friendship, Bloomfield, or Waterworks. It's easy to walk around with sidewalks throughout, although some are not well maintained. The upkeep of houses can be hit or miss with most people taking great pride in their yards and houses; however, some seem to keep a lot of junk around. During Halloween, Morningside is a destination neighborhood with a ton of residents handing out candy to visiting kids and there often up to 200-300 kids coming to houses. Residents also love Christmas time with decorations and carolers who come around each year.
overall this was the only neighborhood i lived in but compared to others i feel like my neighborhood is one of the calmest and no violence area. only thing its not a diversity, in age wise and race. A lot of old people but its a good neighborhood overall.
