There are also many young families that live in this area, so it is very safe and family-friendly. For those who are looking for a delicious craft cocktail, they can drive down to Miramar Road right down the street to visit one of San Diego's famous breweries. I've lived in San Diego my whole life, and the last decade of that has been in Mira Mesa. I didn't appreciate it when I was younger. I had heard it called Mira Masia or Manila Mesa in a derogatory way. Being white, I didn't think I would fit in. But I have come to appreciate the sense of community here that comes largely from the families here, and that could be due to the Asian influence. Now that I have kids, I see what a great place this is for kids. The schools are great, the majority of the people are family-oriented, and there are many community events to enjoy. I feel safe taking my kids to one of the many parks in the area and the schools rival those in the more expensive areas nearby. To top it off, it's a quick drive to many of San Diego's big attractions. Mira Mesa has been the best-kept secret in San Diego for a long time.
Nice community, but poorly laid out due to it being designed in the late 70's. Very diverse with a lot of restaurants opening up on every corner. Streets are decent and houses are moderately sized. Education is decent, nothing exceptionally. Overall Mira Mesa is the average of average. Nothing exciting mostly everything is predictable.
