If you only focus on the culture aspect of La Villita then its pretty good with authentic mexican restaurants everywhere mexican stores, mexican street vendors We even have a Mexican Independence day parade focused in La Villita which is a big thing that happens around here. Things are pretty cheap around here unless you are buying genuine mexican boots or very nice cowboy hats which are sold a lot around here, then those cost a pretty penny. Its not that big a neighborhood so walking everywhere isnt bad but there is a bus that runs up and down 26th our commercial street if you dont want to walk The schools I went to were pretty good but thats only because of the teachers they were motivated enough to teach hard so we wouldnt be stuck in this dangerous neighborhood forever. There are a lot of dangerous schools to be in and the neighborhood in general after dark is not a very safe place to be in Gangs can start going about and I have personally witnessed a beating outside my apartment
Little Village is home to one of the largest Hispanic, majority Mexican, descent in the whole city. Thus, they have several Mexican restaurants that you could choose from in 26th street. Depending on the season there are street food vendors around that sell tamales, corn in a cup, ice cream/shave ice, and churros. However, there are some other street vendors around the neighborhood that sell honey, vegetables and fruit, clothing/jewelry, and gallons of soap. Like there are several Mexican restaurants, there is also several bakeries that you can definitely buy some sweet bread to enjoy later at home. Overall, most of the stores and restaurants are located on 26th street and the rest of the neighborhood is occupied by houses, schools, or churches. Public transportation is average, there is 4 different bus routes and nearby train line. Traffic gets heavier on the main roads during the weekend and in the afternoon, but it is normal to expect it.
This neighborhood is a populated by majority Latinx people and honors Mexican culture through the celebrations that take place during important days in their history. Most of the small businesses in this area are family owned. The crime in this area is above average which would not make it ideal to live in, but the crime has been lowering steadily over the past few years. The people in this area are very nice and hard-working.
