If Jersey City has earned the title of most diverse city in America, then Journal Square is its crown jewel. The area is a mix of some historic charm, new high rises and development, and a lot in between. Although green space is lacking, there are a few pockets in or nearby such as Canco Park, Leonard Gordon Park, and Pershing Field. The access to NYC is amazing: you can reach downtown NYC in about 10 mins, and midtown in about 20 mins. Lot of change happening as part of all the development — hope this will bring more retail, services, and walkability for residents.
I like that journal square has a Starbucks, a fresh framers market that comes in the summer months and new food places that set up shop by the train station. I love how easily it is to get to Manhattan but I would like to see more diversity and the clean up of moving homeless people off the streets that hang around journey Square and bring the neighborhood appeal down.
Journal Square is great for an NYC commuter. However, the area is quite old and dilapidated. Gets pretty depressing day after day sometimes.
