I give this an average rating because there is room for improvement.
What’s Good
This is a city neighborhood that actually has figured out how to operate like one. Meaning That there was a great selection of shops and other services that are available nearby in walking distance or on a bus line. There are a number of choices available to you for schools private, public and charter. Homes are affordable.
What Sucks
School choice comes with a price. If you choose a magnet be prepared for your child to have a long (hour+) commute. The charter schools have a history of instability. The neighborhood is diverse at the socioeconomic and “lifestyle” level not exactly racially diverse. It’s 75% white. It’s also a hamlet for the uberleft who are just as annoying as the ultra right . “Socioeconomic diversity” sometimes means theft, damage and drug dealing will take place in front of you.

As a life-long resident of historic Irvington, I have nothing but wonderful experiences and memories! Whether you participate in the annual parade of the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival, golf or walk your dogs through the neighborhoods, there is so much for an individual to do and see in Irvington. Restaurants are a must to visit along with the antique shops which are all along Washington Street. I would recommend Irvington for those who wish to live in a beautiful house, become a member of the garden club, attend an evening at the "Irving" for poetry readings or live concerts. Irvington is a must!
Irvington is a quirky, close-knit community! We have a local brewery, an awesome artesian pizza place, and soon a Pho restaurant. Irvington is most known for its iconic Halloween festival, and spooky stories of H.H Holmes. During weekend nights in October, you can see crowds walking our neighboorhood on the "Irvington ghost tour". We have two lovely local coffee shops that are perfect for a cup at any time of year. Our homes are distinctly unique, no two are alike! We have some that are grand and majestic, fit to house a family of twelve! Others are dainty and small, perfect for two. Our streets bend and wind, just like the streets from sleepy hollow. Our little town comes alive during the fall months, but don't let that fool you! We are quite lively with summer concerts on Audobon circle during the summer, our farmer's markets every Wednesday at the theatre building, and our large market in Ellenberger park once monthly during the spring and summer.
