Hillsdale is affordable, cute, and peaceful to live in. My husband and I moved here from Goose Hollow neighborhood near downtown Portland a few months ago and have been thrilled with our decision. We are now able to afford a larger apartment with a balcony on a quiet and pretty property with a pool and ample parking for less monthly rent than our previous place. The town itself is very cute and has restaurants and cafes, boutiques, breweries, grocery stores, a pharmacy, and a gas station - everything that we're likely to need without having to drive very far. The public transportation is also pretty good through town with many bus lines that travel into downtown Portland and out to PCC Sylvania campus and other helpful locations.
I've been living here for about 6 years and it has been such a pleasant neighborhood to live in. It is quiet, calm and quite cute. We have such a great transportation system here, great grocery stores that are walkable, we have beautiful scenery and trails, restaurants are at walkable distance and downtown is only a 15 minute bus ride or 10 minute driver.
It's very close-in to everything in Portland while being a fairly quiet suburban area. Transportation (public, walking, by car) is excellent. It's a safe and clean neighborhood. There are lots of beautiful trees everywhere. I am close walking distance to everything I need like grocery stories, shops, and restaurants. There is a severe lack of sidewalks in southwest Portland but the SW Trails system makes up for that and improves pedestrian accessibility.
