Highland Park Reviews
It's alright. I would raise kids here if I could. The north side is often stereotyped as dangerous for Des Moines. It's not all that bad. That being said we do have a lot of break ins and car theft so just lock your doors and it'll be fine.
Most of the crime that occurs in the area where I live involves petty theft. However, there have been a few incidents lately involving shootings around the local high schools. The last shooting incident was a drive-by and occurred by a bus stop right next to the high school that I attended. Thankfully, incidents such as these are few and few between.
There are a wide variety of places to eat around Des Moines. Pizza and burger joints are particularly popular. I try to visit Zombie Burger whenever I come home from college on a break. Their burgers are crazy - in a good way!
